Red Stripe wanted to enhance their presence at Notting Hill Carnival without damaging their existing reputation as the drink of choice and an effortless participant. The answer to this came in the form of an outdoor exhibition showcasing the 'Makers of Carnival', highlighting the diverse roles of Carnival veterans such as Bert, the station manager at Westbourne Park, to the more renowned Norman Jay, who has been hosting his own stage at the event for over 20 years.
The legendary Rock 'n' Roll photographer Pennie Smith was chosen to shoot the 'Makers' portraits. The exhibition was displayed on chip board used to board up local shops just off Portobello Road during the Carnival itself.
